ATTR brings in new rescues from both local and from out of state shelters. All new rescues are held for up to 2 weeks sometimes longer prior to adoption depending on their specific needs. Some go into foster homes for this time frame. We need the help of the local community to provide these foster homes. Fill out a foster application and and you will be contacted by a volunteer. Click the application tab above to get started.
New rescues needing foster homes ASAP
ATTR has several foster programs and we will work with your family’s needs to find the one that works best with you. One of ATTR’s goals is to get families involved in the rescue community. We have programs to foster puppies, adult dogs, dogs with medical needs, kittens as well as dogs and cats that are about to give birth.
Puppy programs typically are short term and until the vaccines are administered, they are wormed and at least 8 weeks old. Depending on age when we get the puppies we have short term fostering needs for 2-8 week time periods. Puppies need to be fostered in at least pairs and depending on the number in the litter and number of foster homes we may ask that you foster 3 or 4 at a time. Foster homes and the friends and family of foster homes have the first option to adopt.
Adult dog fostering programs require that the adult dog stay in the foster home until adopted. We will put adult dogs into foster homes when they have been in the adoption centers too long and are no longer showing well there. When in the foster home, it is your responsibility to get the foster dog ready for its forever home. While in your home, the rescue needs you as the foster home to work on training of the dog in basic obedience, potty training, crate training and basic good manners. As the foster home you will provide shelter, love and discipline to the foster dog. ATTR will provide the food, crate and all medical needs of the dog. However, if you can provide a crate or food that is acceptable and appreciated.
As a foster for an ATTR rescue, we will require you to stay in contact with your ATTR Mentor on the dog’s progress, while in your home. We need you to understand that as a foster you are saying to us that you are willing to work with the dog on any problems or issues or training needs that arise. Some rescues come out of shelters and simply need a safe, clean, loving place to sleep, eat and play. Other dogs come out of the shelters and need extra training or socializing, or work on anxiety issues. As a foster you must be prepared to work with the foster dog in a clam assertive manner. ATTR will also provide behavioral /training guidance.
Are you willing to put in the time and energy needed and recommended on a foster dog case by case basis? If so fill out an application and after it is process, we will match you up with a dog that will fit into your household. The foster program is set up to benefit the dog and help it find its forever home. We can provide a marketing platform and venues, but we need you as the foster home to work to find its forever home. If you feel your foster dog is a good fit for your home and want to adopt it let your mentor know and we will take the steps to complete the
adoption process. In order to find its forever home, we will set up adoption events for you to attend with your foster dog. Or you can make arrangements with another volunteer to bring your dog to an event.
We will have periodic days to “Meet The Foster Dogs” in the stores and will require you as a foster home to attend both adoption events and “Meet The Foster Dogs” in the stores. You will also want to promote your foster dog on FB with cute pictures with the kids, with the resident dog, in the car, on walks, playing, sleeping, etc.
An ATTR Representative will bring in all adult dogs for a meet prior to any commitment for fostering. We will also bring puppies to your home for your first time fostering. We will complete the home visit at that point, making sure your home is approved to be a foster home for ATTR. After that initial home visit, Meet & Greet, you will be able to come and pick up the foster puppies. All adult dogs will be brought to the homes to ensure the dogs are properly introduced.
In the event a rescue dog or cat of Alsip To The Rescue should bite or injure in anyway, a human, a dog or cat while on a home visit the applicants homeowners insurance would be recognized as primary, leaving Alsip To The Rescue and Alsip Home & Nursery insurance as noncontributory.
The adoption fee for our puppies up to age 6 months is $400. It will include the spay/neuter, microchip, as well as all medications and age appropriate vaccines up to the point of adoption. After adoption and up to the spay/neuter time which is around 6 months old, the adopter is responsible to keep up with vaccines and rabies at the time of spay/neuter along with 12 months of heartworm prevention. If you know someone that wants to adopt your foster, ask them to fill out an application online and let your foster mentor know so that we can make arrangements for them to adopt if they pass the application process. Otherwise your puppies will go into the adoption centers after 8 weeks of age and when they are fully vaccinated. For their adoption process we ask that potential adopters come into the adoption centers with their children and any resident dogs for potential meets prior to adopting puppies. We only accept applications on puppies for foster home and then for adoption of the foster home or their friends and family members. If any puppies are left over then they will go into one of the adoption centers for adoption. When the puppies are ready for adoption they will go into our locations in Frankfort, IL and St John, IN. At that point we will post they are available for adoption. You then can bring in your family and any pets to meet the puppies and complete the adoption with one of our adoption coordinators. You will have the opportunity to speak with a trainer as well at that point and to sign up for a free seminar about bringing home a new rescue that we will be holding on Saturdays at Noon in both locations.
